When ‘Parents’ encounter ‘Choral Singing’

Many people think that the beginning of parenthood is the end of dreams. However, the Hong Kong Parents Choir believes otherwise. The more we want a fruitful life and the more we parents want to inspire our children, the more we need to pursue our dreams and hold on to them. We believe that music is capable of breaking boundaries to unite people from different backgrounds and bonding people together. Music enriches our lives and is an instrument of peace and a channel to express our heart. The Hong Kong Parents Choir, therefore, hopes to serve as a platform for parents to pursue afresh our dream in music via choral singing.

We sing as we grow; we grow as we sing

Parents nowadays like to encourage their children to develop multiple pursuits outside the confines of the classrooms. We believe that we parents can also develop our interests outside the confines of our office rooms or homes. We hope that by walking our talk and practising what we preach, we can encourage our children to develop a positive attitude towards whatever they do and most of all, to be passionate about their endeavours and to persevere. As much as we hope our children will grow up strong and healthy, we parents endeavour to grow in wisdom and in understanding. Singing and bonding together with fellow parents is certainly one way to do so.

Teamwork makes our dream work

「Behind the ‘glamour’ of our costumes and makeup on stage is a medley of dedication, hard work and commitment of time. While we strive for impeccable harmony and aim for artistic excellence in our performances, members embrace the 3-hour routine rehearsals every Saturday afternoon. Above all, we cherish the cordial friendship amongst us as we share, not only music but our joys and challenges in life.

Performances motivate us to make progress

Performing on stage keeps up our zeal to be engaged with music. Audience’s recognition, feedback and appreciation serve as incentives for us to double our effort to get better. Since our inauguration six years ago, we have been holding annual concerts at Hong Kong’s major concert halls. We have also been invited by various local organisations to perform at folk song festivals, the Hong Kong Youth Festival, Christmas Carolling events and on many other occasions. The exciting and unforgettable opportunity to perform outside Hong Kong has greatly boosted our confidence as well. Invited by the municipal government of Kunming, the capital city of China’s southern Yunnan Province, we had the privilege to perform for university students in two of the biggest and most renowned universities in Kunming in April 2017. We look forward to more opportunities to perform in different places both locally and outside Hong Kong. We sincerely hope that we can serve as goodwill ambassadors to share friendship, peace, love and music with more people around us.
